Wednesday

05.05.10

dear carla: i recall looking for “cording” with you in the fabric store in maine, and you were disappointed with their limited selection. today i found this whole floor of a rainbow of cords in sf, you should visit.

Sunday

06.07.09

dear dave: thanks for helping me define relaxation this weekend! i especially love your handless (and headsetless) cell phone technique.

Saturday

06.06.09

dear renegade craft fair: my favorite find was these customized wooden wedding-cake toppers! no reason to buy them though…

Friday

06.05.09

dear dana: our high tea brunch was fit for a queen. the ditsy floral teapot cozies were an added perk.

Thursday

06.04.09

dear brooklyn pizza: you can’t get anything this good on the west coast.

Wednesday

06.03.09

dear suitcase: i have less stuff going out than i had going in, and yet you won’t close. why is that?

Tuesday

06.02.09

dear lily: thanks for keeping me company.

Sunday

05.31.09

dear boston: so much of my relationship with you has involved this highway, usually in deadlocked traffic.

Friday

05.29.09

dear rapid ray’s: that’ll be a cheese, a fry, and a choc. and thanks for correcting the next person in line when he did not know how to order-- reminding me that though i don’t live in saco anymore, i am still local.

Wednesday

05.27.09

dear jet blue: maybe it’s just the angle, but your plane looks rather small to be carrying 150 passengers and i across north america in the middle of the night.

Sunday

05.17.09

dear america: as i waited for a passenger in my car to use the bathroom from this hot, dry, 110ยบ asphalt parking lot on the freeway, i wondered, when are we going to reduce our dependency on oil?

Friday

05.15.09

dear lake tahoe: i had no idea you were so pristine. perhaps i should get out of the city more often.

Wednesday

05.13.09

dear sky blue scooter: this is the vespa i want, assuming there is a matching helmet in the trunk.

Tuesday

04.28.09

dear creepy tourist man: i took this photo of you on the sly, while you filmed me and the cabled hill ahead without shame. i wonder how many vacation photos and videos i unwillingly star in?

Monday

03.16.09

dear boss: thank you for letting me drive your fancy car. it felt like back to the future part ii (have we reached “the future” that the movie references yet?) when the mirrors folded up and a green glare repellent thing came down on them.

Thursday

02.26.09

dear smart car: pros = ability to zip up and down hills to find and fit into tight parking spaces with ease, going green and an eye-level vantage point to unpredictable young/elderly pedestrians. cons = no backseat, risk of death by five-ton cable car and the appearance of being a total dweeb.

01.15.09

dear commute: hanging on for dear life to the front poll of the cable car while we race up the hills during rush hour is often the most exciting part of my day. and it smells way better than the bus.

Monday

12.29.08

dear portland, maine (part 2): you kind of make me think of charles dickens’ london. minus the cholera outbreaks.

Saturday

12.27.08

dear portland harbor hotel: i like the sentiment behind the chocolate lobster that you left on our bed after you turned down the covers.

Tuesday

12.23.08

dear maine: i’m home.
